Back to School. Back to a Clean House.

By Maria · September 6, 2026 · 3 min

The best time to start a cleaning routine isn't when the kitchen is a disaster. It's the two quiet weeks before the schedule gets loud.

Summer in Seguin has a particular way of settling into a house. The kids are home more days than not. The kitchen sees morning cereal, afternoon snacks, and a 5 p.m. dinner that somehow involves four different pots. The bathrooms get worn by bare feet and wet swimsuits. By the time August rolls around, the house feels lived-in in the way that means every surface has collected a thin layer of summer.

And then the calendar flips. Backpacks hit the floor at 2:45. Mornings compress into a sprint. The last thing you want to be doing at 6:15 a.m. is scrubbing the grout in the guest bathroom while a kid can't find their gym clothes.

That's why back to school is the natural reset. A new schedule means new habits. You're already rearranging your week around pickup times, practice nights, and the first week of homework chaos. A cleaning rhythm fits into that same reset. You set it once, in the quiet window before September, and it holds.

What a realistic routine looks like

Here's what a realistic routine looks like, and I mean realistic. Not a checklist that turns your Tuesday evening into a second job. Most families I work with in Seguin and the surrounding areas land on one of three rhythms: weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. A family with two kids and a dog might want weekly. A couple with one kid and a quieter summer might do bi-weekly and add a deep clean in the fall. There's no wrong answer. The point is that the house stays at a level where mornings don't start with you wiping down the counter because last night's pasta sauce splattered the backsplash.

Where to start

A standard clean covers the rooms that take the most back-to-school wear. Kitchens: countertops, appliances, the sink that's been running all summer. Bathrooms: a proper sanitize, not a surface wipe. Floors: swept, mopped, the way they should be every time someone walks through the front door. And if you want, window frames and tracks cleaned so the light actually comes in clean.

Then there's the deep clean, and this is the one I'd actually recommend you book in the August window. A deep clean hits the stuff a standard clean doesn't reach: baseboards, blinds, the inside of the oven and fridge, grout, vents. It gets the house back to baseline. You walk in after and the place smells like a house instead of a house that's been running on fumes since Memorial Day.

Here's the part I care about

You're the one making the school lunches. You're the one calling the school nurse about the fever. You're the one figuring out the bus route and the supply list and whether the backpack actually fits. You should not be the one on your hands and knees at 10 p.m. getting crayon off the baseboard in the hallway.

I get it, too. A cleaning service feels like an extra line item on a week that's already stretched thin. I'm not going to sell you a package you don't need. I'm Maria, I own Double M Cleaning, and I do the cleaning myself. You tell me what you need, we pick a day, and I show up and clean while you do the things that actually matter this week.
